The Additive Manufacturing Innovations for Extreme Environments Laboratory (the AMIEE Lab) is led by Dr. Scott M. Thompson - an Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at the University of Missouri in Columbia. He is also a research affiliate of the University of Missouri Research Reactor (MURR).
AMIEE focuses on designing/optimizing next-generation materials for fabrication via metals additive manufacturing (AM) and in characterizing such devices for their safe, reliable operation in nuclear and/or high-temperature environments. Our Lab is always striving to perform relevant, industry-driven research in areas pertaining to: metals AM, thermal management, AM part characterization, nuclear applications, high heat flux applications, heat transfer modeling, heat pipes and more.
AMIEE integrates the participation of graduate and undergraduate students to perform multi-disciplinary research. Research projects involve experimental, hands-on experience and the use of numerical tools.
The Department of Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering is just steps away from the Francis Quadrangle (with the columns) at the University of Missouri in the fantastic city of Columbia, Missouri.
